We welcomed PI day by learning about what our teacher calls "the secret of circles". We read the book Sir Cumference and the dragon of PI and then we experimented on our own with different size circles and different materials for measuring circumference and diameter. We tried yarn, pipe cleaners, ribbon, and even string licorice! We discovered that no matter the size of the circle the length of the yarn always went three times and a little more across the center of the circle! We then worked on mastering our measuring skills. We learned that we have to be careful when we line up our rulers or our measurements won't be accurate. We found that when we measured accurately our circumference divided by our diameter was always close to three! We had to work together for this project and found that it helped to have extra hands and eyes to get the measurements right. We had a lot of other fun activities to celebrate the day! Puzzles, games, etc. It was a fun day of learning.
We went on an exciting field trip today to see Shrek the Musical at the Palace Theater. It was a very funny show. The costumes were great and the singing and dancing was fabulous! The message was even better. Be yourself, we are all unique and that's a good thing! Madisyn's favorite character was princess Fiona. Her favorite part was when she turned into an ogre. Andrew liked Shrek and Donkey. His favorite part was when Shrek was making a fire with Fiona. Makayla's favorite character was Cinderella. Her favorite part was when the whole cast was singing and dancing at the end , to "I'm a Believer"! Brianna's favorite character was Fiona. Her favorite part was when she turned into an Ogre. Noel's favorite character was Donkey! We liked all the songs, but this is one of Mrs. Tharp's favorites. It is not from the performance that we saw, but it is still a good video. It really reinforces the message of the show! It is time to take up the blogging challenge! Are you up for it? If so be sure to get your introduction up do date on your blog and get the badge for this challenge. Check the challenge website and our blog regularly so that you'll know the details of each new challenge. I can't wait to see what is ahead for us!
